Today is a historic day for the Newah community! After more than three years of continuous effort from many people around the globe, Nepalbhasa is finally on Google Translate. The invaluable gift for the community is a very high level of translation accuracy, and will only improve from now on.

The benefits of this project are multifold. Text written in Nepalbhasa can now be translated into more than 100 languages. Entire web pages can now be translated into Nepalbhasa. Apps can be developed such that children who cannot speak Nepalbhasa can talk to the app in their language, and it will translate their speech into Nepalbhasa and vice versa for their grandparents. Tourists who are travelling to Nepal can easily read any signpost or information written in Nepalbhasa using Google Translate and any other tool based on it.

The World Newah Organization (WNO) is working on changing the name from Nepali (Newari) to “Nepalbhasa” in dialogue with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). We’ll keep you updated on it.
