On June 26, 2024, the World Newah Organization unveiled a significant work titled Heritage Preservation and Rights in Nepal: The Newar Language, Culture, and Rituals by scholar Bal Gopal Shrestha. This comprehensive study was revealed during a Zoom meeting, drawing attention from scholars, activists, and members of the global Newar community.
The virtual event featured Social Anthropology Professor David Gellner of Oxford University as a special guest. Professor Gellner officially released Heritage Preservation and Rights in Nepal: The Newar Language, Culture, and Rituals, speaking about the book, its author, and the ancient Newar civilizations. He also discussed the history of Nepal Sambat, emphasizing its significance in Newar heritage.
Sanyukta Shrestha, one of the speakers, highlighted the critical importance of thorough book reviews to honor the author’s extensive research and insights.
Bidur Dangol, Manager of Bajra Books and Bajra Publications, which published the book, expressed gratitude to the author for choosing their publication. Previously, they had published another book by the same author titled The Newar of Sikkim, making this new publication a particularly exciting addition.
The author, Dr. Bal Gopal Shrestha, was interviewed by WDB, hosted by Dr. Naresh Shakya. Dr. Shrestha mentioned that this book represents years of research across different periods. He spent many years gathering research articles from various times.
