The World Newah Organization strongly condemns the recent move by the Government of Nepal to use the excessive force of Nepal Army to suppress the original inhabitants of Khokana to capture their fertile lands without any compensation.

This is absolutely not acceptable to displace and destroy the lives and the cultural heritage of Khokana in the name of development-Fast Track. There are many other places the Government of Nepal can choose to develop. Why Khokna? Khokana is the living museum of Newah civilization and this is one of the few places in Nepal still practicing the same old tradition from the medieval time. This is also one of the very important archaeological sites of Newars. The GoN is supposed to protect and preserve this type of highly important sites in the country rather than destroying.

We demand the GoN to immediately suspend this project and have the dialogue with the local inhabitants how can they preserve and protect the sacred places and not destroy the lives of the Khokanians by forcefully capturing their pasture lands which their lives depend on.Thank you
